Our team is comprised of 3 engineers who met while working at Palantir technologies ($PLTR). Codrut and Felix were interns together in the ontology team in London and Pierre-Louis led commercial deployments in the US. It’s at Palantir that we were exposed to the Cambrian explosion of AI workflows, all working on the very first LLM-based workflows in production. We shared a passion for education and the potential to reshape the traditionally slow-moving sector became obvious.
We originally built our platform for the medical residency exam in Romania which is now the most used revision platform by medical students in the country. Our software is composable, with building blocks to tackle any type of exam, and allowed us to rapidly expand to engineering, law and high school exams, then to many more countries (🇺🇸, 🇵🇪, 🇮🇳, 🇫🇷…)
Educato is backed by Y Combinator and was part of the S24 batch, where they raised money from some of Silicon Valley’s best investors.
Large exam prep platforms focus on a small minority of exams, mostly in the US, while the majority of exams and certifications worldwide are overlooked.
Historically, this is due to the high cost of content creation and moderation. Local players, mostly in-person tutoring companies have filled that gap by providing much needed prep services for the majority and tail end of exams. This market is now entirely unlocked by Large Language Models, which allow us to generate and validate high quality exam prep material from unstructured data.
